Story Time
From now until July 31, you can all safely assume that I will be in Malaga. Although I may take a weekend trip hither and yon, my travels will be nothing compared to what they were last week or the week before. Any updates, therefore, will be solely based on the events that pass while I am somewhat stationary. My blogs will most likely be similar to those pre-Europe...except now they'll be in Spanglish. So here we go...
The other day, I went on my quest for an alarm clock. I just started walking and I ended up in en el centro. It's about a 45 minute walk. I wandered around for a bit, found an alarm clock that doubles as a pen/pencil holder AND plays 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas' to wake me up, ate at Burger King (exotic, I know), and started the hike home. It was about 9:00. I'm walking, enjoying some Shane Barnard (which I'd been enjoying sparingly because the battery was low and I don't have a converter for the plug. Steve has one. Going to borrow it tonight if possible. Anyway...) when this guy stops me to ask me something, which I missed because I was spending quality time with Shane. So he asks if I'm from Malaga. No. Where am I from? The U.S. I speak English? Of course. I'm here to improve my Spanish? Yes.
Ok so this guy had apparently studied English in London before and get this. Are you ready?
He thought it'd be a good idea if we got together for an 'intercambio de lenguas.' It means language exchange, but translated literally, 'interchange of tongues.' RIIIIIIIIGHT. I couldn't help laughing in his face. I said, "I don't think so," he said, "ok," and we both walked away. I guess "Do you speak English?" isn't such a bad pick-up line after all, huh Chris?
