Yo' Mama's Potluck
I've just realized that I didn't take any pictures of the FOOD last night (Food is in all caps because there was more of it than there were people. It took over, really.), and that is tragic because it. Was. Delicious! Let me just see if I can remember it all. We had:
-chicken casserole
-broccoli casserole
-macaroni and cheese
-a leek tart
-cole slaw
-chicken with garlic
-jalapeno corn muffins
-rolls
-rice
-brownies
-chocolate chip cookies
-chocolate chip coconut cookies
-a pumpkin cheesecake
I think there were 10 of us here, and that's 13 dishes, so you can only imagine the left-overs. I think we're going to have a left-over potluck sequel this evening at hoegroup.
It's our last hoegroup of 2006. Sigh. Tear. I've just realized that as well. We're almost a year old. We had our first meeting on January 15, 2006. I'd like to share with you the minutes from that meeting exactly as they are recorded in "the database."
1-15-06
The First HoeGroup Meeting
Members Present:
Beth
Whitney
Things We'd Like to Do:
- weekly fasting
- study Ecclesiastes (?)
- accountability
- Wednesday morning prayer (7:30)
- Superbowl Party
- Bobby Fischer Night
"Have a bou of a day!"
- Piggy-back races
- Field Day ('Boulympics)
- Karaoke
- Labor Ready
And for the record, a year later, we haven't done the fasting, we did study Ecclesiastes (and Isaiah and Acts), we went to prayer for a while, but I haven't been recently, but I think some of the other hoes still go. We have great accountability, but it could be even better. I think the superbowl had already taken place when we made this list, so I'm not sure why we wanted to have a party. Maybe we will this year, but even if we don't, I'd say we've had plenty enough parties to make up for it. We didn't have Bobby Fischer night, but I still think it's a good idea. Every day that includes a trip to the 'bou is a bou of a day. The field day (including piggy-back races) would have been much funnier when it was just me and Whitney, but I think it could still be done, and still be fabulous. We went to karaoke on Friday night. And we're thinking about starting up Labor Ready breakfasts on Fridays maybe in January? That's not fully determined yet, but it's in the works.
All in all, I'd say that's not too shabby for a first year. I mean we've grown by about 400%, and we've established monthly film/food events. And we're all quite well-known at the 'bou. Yes, I think we're doing pretty okay.
