dedicated to Tracey Clem

Oh blogger, how I love thee! You've brought Mrs. Clem back into my life! She was there for my Journey vocal team audition with Merle Dandridge. She was there to help me learn all the harmonies. We laughed a LOT. She sang "the final countdown" to me when I was getting ready to leave NY. Then we realized that it wasn't really the final countdown, so she sang "the penultimate countdown" instead. Then the penultimate countdown turned out to really be the final countdown, but we didn't know it, and sigh...I don't think I've seen her since. I hope she's still holding out hope that we'll be related one day, though, because THAT would be amazing. Does your brother know that you only want to hook us up so that we'll be sisters-in-law and that he is otherwise inconsequential? HA! Now, on to the serious business of blogging...

If you had told me, back when I was planning on moving to Raleigh for what seemed like no reason whatsoever, that two years later I would be writing bylaws and articles of incorporation for a nonprofit women's magazine that I would be involved in creating; if you had told me that I would be trying to find a lawyer to help us through this process pro bono, or that in another two years I could be planning annual conferences and working on creating a press that would publish women authors; if you had said any of these things to me, I would have thought you were 100% dotty. And yet, that is exactly where I am. I don't want to spill everything because nothing is certain yet, and I could completely run it all into the ground, but if you're the praying type, please give a shout out for this. I'm really excited about it.

So Tracey, it didn't make any sense at the time for me to leave you and the Big Apple, but none of this would be happening right now if I hadn't, so as much as I miss seeing you each week (and talking to you, because apparently you're always either out of the country or underground), I have to say that it's totally been worth it.

Wow. Vagueness. Pei Wei woot!
