macho macho man

FINALLY, I've found someone to train with for the Avon Walk. There's a girl in north Raleigh (Anna) who's going to do the walk with her sister, but her sister lives in the mountains, so obviously they can't train together regularly. So last week, Anna had organized an official Avon training walk, but I couldn't go to it because I already had plans. I emailed her, though, and said that if ever she wanted to walk "unofficially," to let me know. We went for our first unofficial 4-mile walk yesterday, and before I start the real story, let me just say that four miles is now a piece of cake. I think I actually could have done six or eight without any problems whatsoever. And we did four miles in just about an hour, which means that 26 miles should (theoretically) take me about 7 hours (but probably more like 8 or 9 with lunch/water/bathroom breaks).

Ok, so we're walking around Shelley Lake, and it's a gorgeous day, so there are lots of other people out. And jogging towards us is a very brawny-looking gentleman about our age, and he's trying to tough it out, but he has a very pained expression on his face that he's trying to make look strong, and instead of flexed arm muscles and fists, he's got the limp wrist/floppy hand going on. So after he's passed by, I say to Anna, "I love watching tough guys like that run. It just cracks me up to think about what they're thinking. Girls. Pretty girls. Alright, man, lookin' tough, lookin' strong. Just keep jogging until you get past them. Just keep going. You can do it, dude, just a few more steps, aaaaaaaaaaaand...WHEW. Made it. Way to go buddy. Good job." At this point, Anna turns around to see that the macho man has, in fact, switched to walking, which throws us both into a giggling fit.

On our second lap around the lake, who should we encounter again, but the macho man himself. This time, from far away it appears as though he has tired him wittle self out and is taking a break. When he sees us coming, though, he immediately drops down, right there on the trail, on the hot asphalt even, to do some push-ups. GRRRRRRR...so tough.

Amazing how manly guys are until it comes to asking a girl out, ain't it? Guys, any response? What gives?
