An Acceptance Speech
(to Brooke)
Wow. Whew. WELL, I never thought I'd see this day. Having never taken Latin in my life, who would have thought that a small town girl like me could achieve such an amazing award? With my first 40 bonus points under my belt, I press on toward the goal of 375 bonus points...enough to trade in for the Super Soaker. I'd like to thank Brooke for the open invitation to compete, all the original speakers of Latin for creating such a fine tongue, all the speakers of romance languages for keeping Latin alive (barely...and on life support) in a severely altered state, Lilia (my Spanish teacher in Honduras), Wal-Mart (Siempre), the state of West Virginia (mountain mama), and of course...Lady Liberty. Stand firm and proud for freedom's sake.
I look forward to our trip to the 'neer, Brooke. Mountain Dew is freakin' awesome stuff. May it flow eternally.
