My Apologies
Oh my faithful friends, I do apologize for the serious delay in updating. It's been a particularly crazy few days. I'm going to have to break it all up into a few different posts as to just blog it all out at once would be overwhelmingly long. It's taken up around 10 pages in my journal to say it all. Let the adventure begin...
I was in Florence, and I had but one desire (as you know): to see the David. The rest was of no importance. I had actually planned on sitting in a coffee shop reading Exodus. That didn't happen (I'm behind now Katie. I'll have to catch up). As I approached what I thought must be Academia (location of David), I saw the back of the line so I thought rather than going all the way to the front to find our for sure if that was it and then having to go back to what could by that time be an even longer line, I would just go straight to the back of the line and ask my fellow tourists. Luckily the 2 gentlemen in front of me were speaking English so I asked them. Hooray hoorah, I'd found it, and the 3 of us (all turned out to be Tarheels) took our line time to become BFF's. Long story short: I hung out with Josh and Richard for the remainder of the day, taking a break from them for merely an hour or 2 to drop off purchases at their hotel and freshen up a bit for dinner.
So the David is AMAZING. The more you look at it, the more incredible it gets, and then if you compare it to other statues in there, it just keeps getting better. He did have freakishly large hands and I suspect that there's a story behind that, but I haven't had time to Google it (Mom? Research?), and Josh took a close look (not sure why) and noticed that he David wasn't circumcised (bad Jew! Bad!), but other than that...fabulous (3 snaps in a Zorro formation)!!
