God save the queen
Alrighty, first of all, calm down Ann. I'll be home soon. 2 days to be exact. My flight gets in around 9 to JFK so if you wanna pick me up, you're more than welcome...that goes for anyone in NYC with a car (or the possibility of borrowing one).
Julie and I didn't make it to the ceilidh. It was a sad state of affairs. We got horribly lost in Glasgow and didn't find the place until 11:15. It ended at 12, the door was locked already so they weren't letting anybody else in, and even if they had let us in, it would have cost £6 and it just wouldn't have been worth it for 45 minutes...even though it was the grandfather of square dancing. Oh well. I have been inspired to take themed vacations from now on. This one, I suppose we could call an overview of Europe. But from this point forward, smaller trips with fun themes such as:
-the traditional dancing tour (ceilidh, lindler, flamenco, etc.)
-the chocolate tour
-The Sound of Music tour
-the smooching tour (Julie's suggestion, which had been previously suggested to her from someone else)
-the eastern European spy tour.
If anybody wants to get in on these, we can plan them together..except maybe the smooching tour. I'll save that one for just me and a certain unnamed someone who may or may not be staying with me when he comes to NY to run the marathon....HA!!! JUST KIDDING....a bit.
So now I'm in London. I'm staying at camp...seriously. My room is in a cabin...on a lake...20 minutes by train outside of the city. It's ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! It's SOO nice and when they say, "breakfast included," they mean big honkin' portions of meats and other fried delectables (is that a word? did I spell it right?). None of that baguette with jelly nonsense. And they don't have a lockout time so I slept in today. I plan on doing that again tomorrow...and the next day. And I'm just wandering around. I've seen the tower of London and it's accompanying bridge, the London bridge (which I can't believe we wrote a song and made up a whole game about), St. Paul's cathedral (which is the 2nd biggest cathedral I've ever seen), Leicester Square (which is like NYC's Times Square, except it's the size of Washington Square), and this internet cafe.
I thought about going to see Harry Potter, but it was so expensive! £8.50, which is roughly $16!!! I thought NY was expensive. I also thought things were cheaper if you bought them in the land where they were made. Apparently this doesn't apply to movies.
For only £4 more, I bought a ticket for tomorrow night to...
my ALL-TIME FAVOURITE (with a U since I am in England) musical drama.....
Do you know what it is??
50 points for knowing me so well if you do...
anyone???
yes indeedy,
LES MISERABLES!!!!!!!!!!!
Now, I know I've seen it twice already and it would make sense to see something I've never seen before, but my choices in that category were as follows:
1. "Tonight's the Night," the Rod Stewart musical
2. "The Jerry Springer Opera"
3. "We Will Rock You," the Queen musical
I know, I know, I should have gone for Rod, but I just couldn't bring myself to spend money on any of those. I'm sure the music in Queen would have been fabulous, but I wonder about the strength of the performance considering that it's not actually Queen performing. Anyway, Les Mis was cheaper and I Love Love Love Love Love it. So there shall I go...to the Queen's Theatre (so at least there's some Queen in there somewhere).
Right, so tomorrow I think I'll go to Notting Hill and wander for a bit. Tomorrow night, the show (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), and then Tuesday, I'm leaving on a jetplane. I trust there will be a party waiting for me (with a marching band)...or at least a carniverous couch.
This may very well be the last blog from European soil. Shelley, Ann, Megan, Brooke, and any other Journey evening goers, Chipotle this Sunday? I'm dying for a gigantic quasi-Mexican burrito and a free refill. Kat and Su, prepare ye the way, for the Bojangles count down has begun. I will be stuffing myself with southern fried goodies in 9 days.
