Journey

...not the band.

I think David Hasselhoff is making a play to take over the world. After securing Germany in his clutches, he has enchanted Americans on Baywatch. Now, I've just seen, he's going for the throat as he stars in "Chicago" in London. I think we should all be on the alert.

I traveled from Paris to London by train. Went through the English Channel underneath. Dark. Luckily and quite miraculously, without much incident AT ALL, I got on a train pretty immediately to Edinburgh. I am here now, having arrived yesterday evening around 7:30. Julie met me at the train station and took me to dinner. This was fabulous considering all day I'd eaten a baguette with jelly (for those of you who don't know, when an ad for a hostel in Europe says, "breakfast included," it means you get a baguette and jelly), a bag of chips, and a piece of chocolate cake. That's why full days of travel are SO much fun. Anywho, this is quite possibly the best travel decision I've made thus far. First of all, I get to see Julie, whom I haven't seen in at least 2 years. Secondly, she gives me a free place to stay with a double bed and a washer/dryer. I don't have to wear shoes in the shower. It is a large shower. I can sleep as late as I want, do whatever I feel like, I meet up with her for lunch and then again for dinner. She's having Bible study at her place tonight, which makes me SOO excited because I haven't been to church or anything in almost 2 months! Tomorrow, we're going to do something at the festival that's going on right now in Edinburgh. We're not sure what yet, but whatever. It'll be fun...and Scotish.

And, AND....tomorrow night. I can't tell you how excited I am about this. We're going to a birthday party where there will be dancing (and as you all well know, even if I didn't have arms or hands, that wouldn't stop me from dancing....would you like to see me dance?). But not just any dancing. Traditional Scotish dancing, which I'm told is where American SQUARE DANCING has its roots. Ok, raise your hand if you know how much I love to square dance. Probably not many of you are raising your hand right now because we have never had this conversation, but I think square dancing is the most fun of all the geometric dances possible.

So tomorrow night we're going to a Ceilidh (pronounced "kay-lee"). I am about to jump out of my skin, I'm so excited about it. But for now, I'm going back to Julie's for dinner and Bible study. And then I have to decide what to wear to the party. I may have to invest in some new shoes.

P.S. Aside from all the fun things I'm doing here, Edinburgh is just so cute. I absolutely love it. Of all the places I've been, I would seriously consider living here and in Madrid. The others were nice to visit, but I couldn't call them home. Not that I'm planning on leaving NYC any time soon.
