buttermilk
So...Someone (who shall remain nameless) said at lunch yesterday that they like buttermilk. That "buttermilk is good." So when I went to the store today in need of milk and cereal, I decided to try out the buttermilk.
For the record, buttermilk is NOT good. Buttermilk is, in fact, very bad. Very sour. Very wasteful of my Life cereal, which had to be thrown out because the buttermilk made it inedible.
And now I have to find recipes that involve buttermilk so I can get rid of the filth. Anybody have such recipes? Feel free to share.

my chicken pot pie recipe calls for buttermilk and i HATE having to buy it everytime 'cause i only use it for that. if you want the recipe, let me know. it's pretty easy.
You can use buttermilk as substitute for lots of things- I'm sure if you google its cooking uses you'll find it. Also, any self-respecting southern cookbook will have QUITE a few recipes with the ol' BM!
PS- my mom dips wheat bread in buttermilk when she's sick.. its comfort food for her.
It's a man-made gag-reflex for me!

chicken pot pie:
4 half-breasts of chicken, boiled and chopped into bite size pieces
2.5 c. chicken broth
1 can cream of celery
1 can cream of chicken
mixed vegetables (my mom uses the frozen bag, but i prefer buying fresh and chopping them myself)
1.5 c. self-rising flour
1 teas. pepper
1 c. buttermilk
1 stick melted butter
place chicken in 9x13 pan
heat broth, soup and veggies and pour over chicken
mix flour, pepper, milk, and butter into a doughy mixture
place dough on top of mixture in pan (not like a pie cover, just spread the mixture and it will rise as it cooks in the oven, just sitting on top of the mixture)
35 minutes @ 425. cover for first 10-15 minutes, then uncover. it will be too soupy if it stays covered for too long.

Buttermilk can be made from regular milk by adding vinegar to milk...I think its 1 T to 1 C, but I'm not sure...
Thanks Laura!

Ingredients:
1 container of buttermilk (any size)
1 sink with good plumbing
Pour buttermilk down drain, dispose of container (in recycling bin if possible), go to nearest grocery, purchase milk to your liking, and never believe anyone who says milk about about 2% is good.
